Synopera Productions is reviving Joseph Haydn’s L’isola disabitata, continuing the work begun with the original production by Le StudiOpéra.

The opera brings together four characters on an island: Costanza and Sylvia, who have lived there in isolation for thirteen years, and Gernando and Enrico, whose arrival disrupts their daily lives. Through their reunions, misunderstandings, and the relationships that develop between them, the opera explores solitude, exile, desire, trust, and our relationship with others.

This revival will bring together the same singers and retain the set from the original production. Synopera Productions aims to build on the work already accomplished and on the performers’ shared experience in order to further develop the production.

The aim is not to reproduce the original version exactly, but to deepen the artistic and dramaturgical work: to further define the characters, develop their relationships, and continue exploring the ideas established during the original creation.

The work also raises questions about our relationship with nature, as well as notions of belonging and identity. Costanza remains attached to the world she has lost, while Sylvia, who grew up on the island, has developed a different relationship with her environment. This contrast is one of the aspects that the revival seeks to explore further.

The project also follows a more sustainable approach to production. The existing set will be reused rather than rebuilt. Its abstract and modular design allows it to continue evolving through the staging, the performers’ work, and the lighting, while extending the lifespan of the elements already created and limiting the use of new resources.

This revival is therefore conceived as a continuation of the work initiated by Le StudiOpéra: retaining the cast, set, and main artistic choices of the original production while allowing the performance to continue to evolve.
